Doesn't fix every scratch, but most of them, and gets the disc playing again. Depending on the damage, it can repair so a previously scratched disc plays without any interruption, or at least improve play on discs that are badly damaged. I am glad that I bought this automatic model. Replaced my old manual one, which also worked well, and lasted for about 14+ years until it broke. The automatic one is so easy to use. Tip: I also bought the power adapter through the manufacturer, so I didn't have to supply more batteries (it takes a lot), and worry about removing them while not in use to avoid leakage.

Not sure if I got a bad unit but the motor acts like it is already burned up on the very first disc I tried repairing. I thought the batteries that were included with this were weak, so I tried brand new batteries with the same results. I then thought maybe if I tried a electric adapter it would be better. Wrong again. It takes a full 10 minutes for the unit to do a full revolution around a disc, with me helping it occasionally when it gets hung up and won't turn at all. I wish now I would have went with the manual crank style instead of the motorized.
I am now in search of another repair unit to replace this one. Pretty sure I am going to get another SkipDr but will definitely be a manual crank style. I am going to try to return the unit for warranty service.

My son is hard on DVDs and has probably 25 that are in various stages of playable/unplayable. I almost sent this thing back until I gave it one more try.
First, toss the batteries and use an AC adapter. Thankfully, I had one laying around that fit. Second, it needs to run WAY longer than the instructions say. The DVD I used was badly scratched, skipped/froze all the way through, it played about half of the movie. I ran it through by the directions, and it made it WORSE! It wouldn't even load. So I ran it again, probably 5-6 revolutions instead of the recommended 2. Then it would load, but still skipped badly. So I gave it one more shot. I probably let it run 3-4 minutes, keeping the DVD wet with the "rejuvinating" stuff. I was pretty skeptical by that point, but I have to say I was impressed. It still freezes occasionally, and I'm sure I shortened the life of both the DVD and the SkipDr, but it plays lightyears better than it did before! If I can get 5 or 6 more DVDs fixed, this thing will pay for itself.
